Investigating Human Scale Spatial Experience

چکیده

Spatial experience, or how humans experience a given space, has been pivotal topic especially in urban-scale environments. On the human scale, HCI researchers have mostly investigated personal meanings aesthetic and embodied experiences. In this paper, we investigate scale as an ensemble of individual spatial features. Through large-scale online questionnaires first collected rich set features that people generally use to characterize their surroundings. Second, conducted field interviews develop more nuanced understanding feature identified most important: perceived safety. Our combined quantitative qualitative analysis contributes form context information presents timely investigation into safety spaces. By connecting our results broader scientific literature, contribute understanding.

Investigating spatial relationships in human-robot interactions

Co-presence and embodied interaction are two fundamental characteristics of the command and control situation for service robots. This paper presents a study of spatial distances and orientation of a robot with respect to a human user in an experimental setting. Relevant concepts of spatiality from social interaction studies are introduced and related to Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). A Wizard-...

Investigating rating scale category utility.

Eight guidelines are suggested to aid the analyst in investigating whether rating scales categories are cooperating to produce observations on which valid measurement can be based. These guidelines are presented within the context of Rasch analysis. They address features of rating-scale-based data such as category frequency, ordering, rating-to-measure inferential coherence, and the quality of ...

Investigating pristine inner experience: implications for experience sampling and questionnaires.

We argue that inquiring about directly apprehended ("pristine") inner experience requires four overlapping methodological characteristics: effectively limiting investigation to specific, clearly identified moments; effectively limiting investigation to pristine experience; bracketing presuppositions; and iteratively acquiring skills. We compare and contrast Descriptive Experience Sampling (DES)...

Augmented Human Experience: Spatial Augmented Reality and Physiological Computing

Human Computer Interfaces are in constant advance. Current research focuses on moving the interaction out of the limited reach of computers into the environment, but the focus is still on performance. The maturity of physiological sensors enables interaction that takes into account the user’s inner state, but users are not really aware of such states. It is possible to take a step further and e...

Interaction of sensory experience and age in spatial memory performances

During a critical period of postnatal age sensory experience has a profound effect on maturation of visual cortical wiring. Electrophysiological evidence is indicating a substantial effect of visual deprivation on the visual cortical response properties. In this study we evaluated effect of light deprivation during a limited time of postnatal age on two aspects of spatial (working and reference...
